nine thousand steps

for a bracing walk of 9000 steps or 7.2 kilometres and five suburbs (ashfield, dulwich hill, hurlstone park, canterbury and ashbury): from pratten park walk up arthur street, turn right at queen street, right at canterbury road, right at princess street, right at king street, right at travenar street, left at holden street and left back down arthur street - along the way you might meet a friendly but anxious persian and/or a magnificent completely laid back chocolate cat. you might purloin some unusual grocery items from shops in which you’ll feel yourself transported to the outer suburbs of tripoli or a much more obscure place in the middle east whose name i cannot pronounce, and you might chance upon this magnificent stately old home, or this unusual mailbox.

There are other walks available in the heritage areas of Ashfield and Summer Hill. Just ask at the Ashfield Council's Customer Service Counter. The walks are described as a series of handouts. I recommend Walk 4 around Summer Hill.
